Last week, a group of children from Year 5 got the exciting opportunity to cycle at the Herne Hill Velodrome. Children were taught how to ride on the outdoor sloped course, and then took part in some competitive races against children from other schools, managing to achieve first place! Well done to everyone who rode (including the adults!).
Today, ten children from Years 4, 5 and 6 spent a day at the Olympic Velopark’s road track, learning some road riding techniques and taking part in races against children from other Haringey schools. Despite the rain, we had some great results, including children finishing in 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. Well done to everyone who took part!
A massive well done to the girls’ football team who came fourth in a tournament at Highgate Wood today. The team worked brilliantly together and demonstrated excellent sporting behaviour. They did really well to get to the semi-final stages. Several of the girls were trying football for the first time – I hope they will now want to carry on playing!
Congratulations to the boys’ football team who came second in a tournament at Highgate Wood School last month. The team played brilliantly but unfortunately were narrowly beaten by Coleridge in a very tense final! Although the team were disappointed not to win, they were proud of their teamwork and their performance.
Children from Years 5 and 6 took part in two cross country running races in the Spring Term. The first was at the New River Stadium and the second was at Alexandra Palace. The children who ran had clearly learnt a lot from their athletics enrichment sessions at Finsbury Park track. They were able to discuss strategies, maintain pace over a long distance and choose the right moments to try to increase their speed. It has been great to see some children who do not normally take part in competitive sport having a go and doing really well at these events. If you would like to have a go at long-distance running, why not sign up for this year’s YMCA Crouch End Fun Run in May!
